BATU GAJAH
Batu Gajah, located in the Kinta District of Perak, Malaysia, has a rich history closely tied to the tin mining industry which flourished during the British colonial era. Established in the early 20th century, the town was an important administrative center and a hub for the surrounding tin mining activities, which attracted a diverse group of settlers, including Chinese, Indians, and Malays. Batu Gajah’s historical significance is also marked by the presence of colonial architecture, such as the Batu Gajah District Office and the old courthouse, which reflect its past as a colonial administrative town. The name "Batu Gajah," which means "Elephant Stone" in Malay, is believed to be derived from a large boulder nearby. Today, the town retains a quaint charm, with remnants of its colonial and mining heritage attracting visitors and historians alike.
