Hello friends! Today, we would like to recommend to you the historical richness of Perak state, and you absolutely can’t miss out on Kellie‘s Castle! Although it may seem magnificent on the surface, behind it lies the hidden love of a father for his wife and children!

(It's still a mystery whether this place is haunted or not, but the fact is: This is a place full of British colonial history)

Kellie’s Castle is located in the outskirts of Batu Gajah, Perak, near the Sungai Raya, a tributary of the Kinta River, and is named after the Scottish plantation owner during the British colonial period, William Kellie Smith.

In 1890, Kellie came to Malaya as a civil engineer at the age of 20, and he assisted the state government in developing the forests of Batu Gajah.

In 1905, Kellie built the first mansion on his rubber estate and named it ‘Kellas House. However, this Kellas House was destroyed after the Second World War.

In 1915, after the birth of Kellie‘s son, he decided to build a castle for his family. However, during the construction, many workers from South India died due to an epidemic, and upon their request, Kellie agreed to build a Hindu temple, the ’Sri Maha Mariamman Temple,‘ about 1500 feet away from the castle.

Unfortunately, 11 years after construction began, Kellie passed away in 56-year-old from pneumonia on his way to Lisbon, Portugal. His devastated wife returned to Scotland with their children, and the construction of the castle was left unfinished.
