(The old building in modern days, blurring the boundaries of time)

(Recommend to take photos before night, just like this)

When walking under this clock tower, the thoughts will follow the gentle evening breeze and recall the scene of history class in high school. This clock tower commemorates the assassination of J.W.W Birch who was the first British Secretary of State in Perak at that time, that recorded in the history books.

As early as 1875, Birch was assassinated by the local Malay chief Dato Maharaja Lela during a patrol in Pasi Salak (it was an anti-British period at that time). In memory of him, people were using Birch's name to build that clock tower, and the street next to the tower was using Maharaja Lela's name.

(The legacy of history mentioned in our history textbook)

The clock tower is mainly white as a whole, with black borders as decoration. The four sculptures on the top of the tower represent the four virtues of loyalty,

justice, persistence and tolerance of the British colonial government respectively; while the four colourful portraits on the bottom represent the emergence of civilization in the development process. There are 11 important figures in each painting, a total of 44 figures. Some of these 44 figures are also familiar ones, such as Confucius, Laozi, Sakyamuni Buddha and Michelangelo...

(This clock tower witnessed the development of Ipoh, which makes it valuable for visiting)

Hence, friends who come to Ipoh may visit here and experience the intersection of history and modernity under the sunset!
